Chupagetti is a viral trend on TikTok that combines 2 words - "Chupa" (to suck) & "Spaghetti". The trend involves a flood of people randomly commenting "Here's the chupagetti recipe" which dominated the TikTok streets for a long time.
Chupagetti! You may wonder what it is about? Or whether we meant to write spaghetti and autocorrect did us wrong. Funny enough, it’s no misspelling but is actually a trending term in the world of TikTok.
Since the term does not fit in any context, trolls end up spamming the comment section of different TikTok videos with the phrase, “Here’s the recipe for Chupagetti.”
While we know internet trends are catchy and sometimes even make sense. But, we might as well be prepared for those trends that go viral without a reason. Just like the Chupagetti trend.
Before we deep dive into the abyss of virality, just know by the end of this blog you may also want to drop a Chupagetti comment. And for that, we won’t blame you!

What is Chupagetti?
Around the end of March 2022, “Chupagetti” became a popular word among TikTok users. However, there’s not much context to the term or the phrase “Here’s the recipe for Chupagetti.” There’s literally no recipe to prepare this imaginary dish.
The word is nothing but a portmanteau, a combination of two words - “chupa” & “spaghetti”. “Chupa” which means suck in Filipino and the Italian dish “Spaghetti.”
Don’t be surprised! This is actually what the word means. However, some users say that chupa is a foul word in Filipino. Unfortunately, there is not much clarity in that matter.
Where did the trend come from, and who coined it?
The trend started sometime in January of 2021. A content creator from Lucena, Philippines, Tyrone Tiaga created the word Chupagetti. The background information is pretty ambiguous and some say it is the outcome of a joke. Another thing to note is that the word “ghetti” was the victim of a misspelling, leading to the syllable “getti.”
One theory is that Tiaga came up with that word because of the relevance Spaghetti holds in his culture. Apparently, Filipinos eat Spaghetti on birthdays or to celebrate any occasion. So, the dish is quite popular in the country.
Although who started it all or the first comment to unleash this craze remains unknown. Usually, the top content creators on TikTok initiate the challenges or become part of the hype for clout. And once your favorite TikToker does it, you feel like doing it.
Apparently, the trend is so popular that it buries valid comments making it a bit spammy! And, people have mixed feelings about it.
How to use the word Chupagetti?
The Brownie Recipe came first!
Like the popular brownie recipe trend, the new phrase, “Here's the recipe for chupagetti,” made some users cringe and others join the bandwagon. The brownie trend featured details of how to make a brownie. Though not as simple as it seems.
The comment mentions using half a cup of butter, two eggs, one cup of sugar, one-third cup of cocoa powder, two teaspoons of vanilla extract, and half a cup of flour. However, there are no real instructions to make the brownie, like the oven temperature or pan size. I guess visiting a cooking website would make much more sense.
So, although the brownies looked delicious, it was frustrating for users since the instructions were not clear.
Along with increasing the stress level of users, it raised the inconvenience factor. Imagine using TikTok for the first time and landing on a video with a recipe that’s to only entice you and not help you. Hurts right? Imagine this done multiple times and no valid comment in sight. Now you’re confused and annoyed.
Chupagetti Trend!
Eventually, TikTok-ers shifted their attention to yet another trend. It’s the Chupagetti trend.
Just as annoying, just as cringe-worthy, but also hilarious. Like most other trends, it’s unclear as to why people are doing it. They notice how popular similar trends get and simply follow suit. Chupagetti is just making way for the creation of another random word with no meaning.
But, those who want to genuinely enjoy TikTok have expressed their disappointment over the same. Several users say that Chupagetti is making their user experience less enjoyable. Mostly because most of the comment section is spammed by trolls and there’s no respite in the matter.
Generally, you don’t get banned for overusing a word, but if you do spam a creator’s video, he can choose to report you.
Still, if you want to use it, follow these basic steps:
- Pick a random TikTok video
- Drop a “Here’s a recipe for Chupagetti”
- Post the comment and leave your phone aside only to check how many others wrote the same thing after you. Congratulations! You have successfully brought on mayhem.
Reaction to the use of the trend…
TikTok is a way to escape the ordinary and drown in fun content. For some, it's quick therapy after a long day. However, for an increasing number of users, the experience is no longer that fun because of the recent rise in senseless memes.
While not everyone has accepted or enjoyed this trend, there are some who are using it for fun. The phrase is just another copypasta similar to the brownie meme.
Popular live streaming service, Twitch is quite well-known for these copypastas. Take a look at some of the Twitter comments of people who’ve just officially had it!
- “What is Chupagetti? What is the context?” @taufiqmasri
- “i am so done w these crop, chupagetti and story time comments on tiktok like wth does that mean??!? can y'all just stfu? it isn't even funny. Jejemons.” @hooniebsf
- “Every comment section on TikTok is like: 'Here's the recipe for chupagetti,'” @louvrejae.
- “if i see another "here's the recipe for chupagetti" comment on tiktok, i'm gonna k word myself” @gigi
- “crop?” “story time?” “You don’t have this emoji😅“here's the recipe for ✨CHUPAGETTI✨” @lvfsoob
In the end, it doesn’t even matter…
TikTok is a place where things go viral in a matter of minutes. It could be a dance move, phrase, or slow-reverb song. There’s no telling what the platform will bring out next.
To be fair, not only is it interesting, but sometimes it is like we 1choose to wait for the new thing that will blow our minds and it may not necessarily be good.
Some trends will stick for some time while others will fade away. So hang in there, with time this Chupagetti comment will be put to rest.
