Snapchat is an awesome instant messaging and photo-sharing application that works best for all casual, fun conversations.
This app is unlike any other social media platform as it does things its own way. Its best feature allows users to send snippets of their lives to their friends which are also called snaps.
Now since the app is so different from your traditional social media applications it takes some time to understand all the different features and functions it offers. Especially the meaning of different notifications and the cases when they pop up.
One such notification is the “pending” notification, but not many users know why this notification pops up. So if you have a bunch of messages with the “pending” status wondering what does pending mean on Snapchat, then keep reading.
In this article, we cover what the pending Snapchat notification means and all the different scenarios when this notification shows up.

What does pending mean on Snapchat?
In the below section we go through a few cases when the pending notification might occur on a Snapchat message.
- A pending request - the other user hasn’t yet added you as a friend on Snapchat
- When the other user has blocked you
- Poor or low bandwidth internet connection
- The other user's account is no longer active
- The app is simply glitching
1. A pending request - the other user hasn’t added you on Snapchat
A pending friend request scenario is the most common case when the pending notification shows up on Snapchat. If you have recently added a friend to your friend’s list, but they haven’t added you back, the pending notification will show up in the friend’s list, under their name.
This is sort of like a friends request, follow request version in Snapchat, which makes sure you don’t get added to a random person’s friends list.
2. When the other user has blocked you
If you have been sharing snaps with one of your friends but all of a sudden their chat has a pending notification on it, chances are that this particular friend has blocked you.
Similar to the previous case since the other user no longer wants you to be part of their friend’s list on Snapchat, the status on their chat is changed to pending. When someone blocks you on Snapchat you no longer will be able to send them messages or view their profile.
3. Poor or low bandwidth internet connection
If you are interacting with someone over chat but your internet connection is not very stable causing the other person to not receive your messages, there is a chance the pending Snapchat notification might appear on that particular chat.
This case can also occur if your friend’s internet connection is working poorly. All you can do here is try to disconnect and reconnect your Wi-Fi connection or switch to a different network and hope for the best.
4. The other user's account is no longer active
Similar to the previous case, if in any scenario you are removed from another friend’s contact list, the Snapchat pending notification will show up on that particular contact.
So if this particular friend has decided to delete their Snapchat account, the pending notification will show up under their name. So the chat won’t directly disappear from your contact list but will instead have a pending notification appear on it.
5. The app is simply glitching
This is most probably not the case, but sometimes the pending Snapchat notification might appear even if the above cases are not true. So the app might actually be glitching.
So to resolve this issue you can try to open the chat and close it to see if the status changes. If the notification remains that way there might be an issue with the app itself. You can try re-installing it to see if it works okay.
When will the pending notification go away?
The pending notification will remain as it is unless the issue behind it is resolved. So in the first case, if the other user ends up accepting your request and adds you in return to their friend’s list, the pending notification will disappear.
And if the pending notification comes up because of a poor internet connection, once your internet works well, the notification should ideally go away.
