Google Docs is a popular online word processor having a ton of great features. The most basic formatting option you have in a word processing tool is to change the orientation of a document. Google Docs also has this functionality and it allows you to change to landscape or portrait orientation, in just a few steps.
Before learning about changing the orientation of the document, let's first take a look at what orientation is. The orientation of a document refers to the location of the long edge of the page. Usually, there are two orientations - Portrait (Vertical) and Landscape (Horizontal).

How to change to landscape in Google Docs?
On PC
- Open the document on Google Docs
- Go to ‘File' in the navigation bar and then choose ‘Page setup'
- Set the orientation to ‘Landscape' to change the page to landscape on Google Docs
First, go to Google Docs on your web browser and open the document. Next, click on the ‘File’ button in the navigation bar and then select ‘Page setup’ from the dropdown menu.
Now, you will see the ‘Page setup’ pop-up box. Change the orientation to Landscape in this box.
Tip: If you want to change the default orientation of documents click ‘Set as default’ before you leave the Page setup dialog box.
Finally, click on the ‘Ok’ button at the bottom of the box. You will notice that your document has changed to a landscape orientation.
On mobile device
Step 1: First, go to Google Docs on your mobile device and open the document
Step 2: Next, select the pencil icon at the bottom right corner of your screen
Step 3: Then, click on the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner and choose ‘Page setup’ from the dropdown menu.
Step 4: In the ‘Page setup’ screen, select ‘Orientation’ and change it to Landscape.
Step 5: Lastly, click on the back icon to go back to the editor screen.
Although the document is landscape-oriented, it will still look exactly like it did before. That's because it's being viewed on a mobile screen.
