With a long-held aspiration to become a metaverse company, Facebook has finally taken the first step with the launch of the open beta version of Horizon Workrooms - a remote work application powered by virtual reality technology.
Introducing Horizon Workrooms on @Oculus Quest 2: your new virtual meeting room to sketch ✍️, brainstorm💡 and collaborate with your team 🤝 — no matter where you are. We think it’s one of the best ways to work if you can’t be physically in the same room. pic.twitter.com/YcbYKtzUGj

The Horizon Workrooms is available for free to download on Facebook’s Oculus Quest 2 headsets and supports up to 16 people, all represented in form of Avatars sitting in a virtual workspace.Â
The application allows remote teams to collaborate, communicate and engage with each other virtually. Be it a brainstorming session or mapping out ideas on a whiteboard or just hanging out and socializing as a team - the VR experience is as close to physical reality as one can get virtually.Â

The product brings forth features like spatial audio, remote desktop streaming, mixed reality desk, keyboard tracking, hand tracking along with the new Oculus Avatars creating an experience that is straight out of sci-fi.
Zuckerberg, speaking about all the Facebook divisions working together to realize Workrooms, saidÂ
“Our overarching goal across all of these initiatives is to help bring the metaverse to life.”
Now that the world has had a chance to experience the good and bad of working virtually - it's quite clear that the next step in creating an immersive, engaging office experience will come through virtual reality.Â
