Ericsson is the latest company to announce permanent hybrid working on a large scale. About half of its ~100,000 employees will get to work from home 2-3 days/week forever!
This move isn't surprising since prior to the pandemic, Ericsson's employees were already working remotely 1 day/week on average.
Some major highlights:
- Before Covid-19, employees already worked 1 day/week remotely on an average. 85% of the workforce still working from home despite vaccinations & offices being opened up.
- Ericsson plans to adopt a hybrid model (50% office + 50% WFH) permanently for employees whose presence in office is not business-critical.
- Line managers will get to decide the specifics of this hybrid model for their respective teams.
- They are already redesigning & cutting desk space in 400 offices. They are aiming to cut down dedicated space for cubicles & desks from 60% to 20%.
