There is no doubt that remote work has slowly become the norm with the global population forced to work from home during the pandemic. Although the change came abruptly the world has still accepted the new way of work with open arms.
The general consensus with remote work has been highly positive - what with new technology making it increasingly easier to work virtually. Now, with new remote products emerging every day most companies are on a track to building permanent or hybrid remote workspace.

But do the numbers reflect the general consensus? According to an analysis published by Glassdoor, the number of job searches for remote positions on the website has surged by 460% from June 2019 to June 2021.
Experts say that these trends show a clear change in the dynamic in favor of remote work as there has been no decline in the numbers.
The analysis used the US job search data on Glassdoor to look for the share of job seekers interested in remote jobs. Although the increase in percentages are very high, it seems the remote job seekers in June 2021 only account for 3% of all job activities.
But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 14.4% of workers were working remotely in June 2021. So the percentage share of remote job seekers might not be entirely accurate.
The analysis also talks about the split between remote job applications according to the job seekers' profession.
As always remote jobs are most popular among the IT sector employees with 24.8 percent of job applicants interested in remote jobs.
In the remote job searches, "graphic designer", "project manager" and "software engineer" are among the most popular searches.
